Wedding at WinMock

On August 21st, Han Tran and Brian Dul were married at WinMock at Kinderton in Bermuda, North Carolina. Their late summer wedding in the Main Barn captured not only the style of the couple, but keenly incorporated what makes this place so endearing for weddings, guests and photographers!

The Venue

The WinMock is a beautiful spot for weddings, especially those that aspire to both an expansive and inclusive feel. That isn’t always an easy hat trick. Han and Brian loved seeing the images of WinMock, as they considered their LARGE guest list and desire to have both interior and exterior experiences for their big day. Once they toured the venue in person however, all bets were off for any other spots. It was exactly what they wanted.

Han: “WinMock checked all the boxes. It was close to home and had a large loft area to fit our guest count. The loft itself was gorgeous, and the high wooden ceilings that surrounded us felt so welcoming; it just felt right.”

The Couple

“From taking Driver’s Ed. together to buying our first house, it’s been an amazing journey.”

Yes, you read that correctly. Han and Brian have been in love since middle school, and together for 16 years. Theirs really is a case of “I found my person early and knew it.” They admit to throwing the big L word around in the early days of their youth, but they’ve grown together while growing up. They know that they not only love each other, but are capable of doing life together - messy, complicated LIFE - and can withstand all the lows and celebrate all the highs. As a photographer, I adored working with these two so much.

This self-described book nerd and skater boy made sure that their precious pups were included in the day, and I was more than ready to grab images of them with Angel, Skye and Maize. The dogs images were used in decor, on napkins, and there was even a painting that included them. The setting at WinMock gave us plenty of outdoor options, like the willow trees and lush lawns.

Preparations

The couple and their attendants got ready at the Kimpton Hotel in Winston-Salem, allowing me to capture them at ease, but excited and they prepped for their vows. We then moved to the venue for the ceremony and more photography, excitement and anticipation.

Han described her theme as “earthy boho” and it was beautifully coordinated throughout. Her gown (a stunner), her bouquet, jewelry all tied together. But this theme was also present in the interiors for the reception. There was elegance, but a sense of coziness as well.

A First Touch

While there were tears during Han and Brian’s first touch, there was also a little levity before. Han asked a few of the groomsmen to “be her hands” and when Brian reached around the door to touch his bride-to-be, he was met with a beefy mitt instead.

The Ceremony

I love the sweet, white, clean simplicity of this chapel setting for the vows. It felt intimate and after the petals settled and the couple pledged themselves, the moment just felt so beautiful. It wasn’t about the grandeur of the space, but about the life-long commitment these two were making.

The Reception

The “earthy boho” theme made this barn loft space feel anchored, especially with the addition of some well-chosen furniture and textural elements. It managed to feel both spacious and intimate. Green, beige, and pink were the dominant colors, but touches of coral, tobacco and gold really added elegance and more earthiness to the atmosphere. The result was a knockout!

The Send-Off

Congratulations to these two wonderful people. I’m so happy to have been their photographer, but a witness to their special day.
